Ember of Valdris is the kind of RPG that trusts you to read. The writing leans into a slow-burn fantasy plot, and the turn-based battles give you time to think about element matchups rather than mashing buttons. We spent a good chunk of the first week just experimenting with party combinations.
The crafting system is where it hooked us. You gather materials from completed quests and slowly build better gear, and the upgrade paths branch enough that two players can end up with very different characters. Boss fights actually test whether you prepared, which is rare on mobile.
It does ask for patience in the early hours before the systems open up. Push through the first few chapters and the game becomes genuinely hard to put down.
