Frontier Command: the first ten minutes decide everything

April 2, 2026 · Henrik Nováček

Most of our early losses in Frontier Command came from the same mistake: expanding before we could defend. The game gives you a comfortable opening buffer, and it's tempting to spend it all on growth. Don't.

Prioritize a steady resource income first — two gatherers before any military building. Once your economy ticks over without attention, you can afford to think about walls and units. We timed it and the slow start pays back within the first twenty minutes.

Scouting is underrated here. The fog hides where threats come from, and a single scout unit early saves you from building defenses in the wrong place. We only learned this after rebuilding the same wall twice.

By the mid-campaign the AI gets genuinely tricky, so the habits you form in the first ten minutes carry you through. Set a rhythm early and the later missions stop feeling like a scramble.
